OUR MISSION

The Mission of Hospice San Miguel is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with a life-limiting illness, and to support them and their families through the management of physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs regardless of race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, handicap, disease, or financial circumstances.  We help patients remain comfortable, alert and able to participate in life as fully as possible until death occurs naturally and peacefully; and strive to enable the patient’s family and friends to remain lovingly attentive throughout the dying process in the privacy of their homes. Hospice San Miguel affirms life and regards dying as a natural process, and neither hastens nor postpones death.

OUR VISION

The Vision of Hospice San Miguel is to serve as an advocate for all individuals in Mexico who have life-limiting illnesses. Our role will be to work with various government and private entities throughout Mexico to educate, coach and assist them in the most effective and compassionate way to meet the needs of these patients, their families and support groups. Our desire is to help these entities establish and maintain “world standard” hospice and palliative care practices, including the patient-centered use of a professional, interdisciplinary direct care team.

OUR GOALS

The Goals of Hospice San Miguel are:

1. To recognize each person as a unique individual and attempt to maintain each patient's self respect and identity as well as life philosophy and lifestyle throughout their illness.

2. To provide the following services to our patients:

• A life affirming climate in which the patient can maintain control over his or her life, prepare for death in his or her own way, live life with a sense of personal worth, while also affirming the importance of the patient's family and friends whom we will support during the patient's illness and into bereavement.

• A professionally trained multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, spiritual and holistic providers as a resource, on an as-needed basis, to augment and assist each patient’s personal group of care providers according to need and preference.

• To assist the patient’s family and care providers in daily function, relief and stress control through a team of hospice-trained volunteers, for matters regarding physical, emotional and bereavement needs.

3. To integrate with the existing Mexican medical community (doctors, nurses and caregivers) by providing resources in vanguard hospice and palliative care techniques and methods.

4. To outreach to Mexican health authorities and medical personnel on the principles of hospice care and the benefits it can accrue for the people who reside in Mexico.
