Advance Directives - Making a Choice
The most important aspects of life planning and end-of-life preparation begin well in advance of the final stages of our lives. As we age, there are two important things we must do.
First, give ample consideration as to how you want your assets managed and distributed should you become incapacitated or unable to manage them yourself. And, who you trust that will act in your best interest.
And secondly, what kind of medical attention or services do you want to receive if you are unable to care for yourself. As well as what your rights are in terms of what services you can refuse.
Defining your wishes and communicating them to your family, your medical providers, loved ones and legal representatives is of vital importance when addressing end-of-life issues. At Hospice San Miguel we understand this decision process can be difficult, emotionally. But taking a thorough and thoughtful approach to the subjects now can ensure clarity later.
Because of the new Right to Palliative Care Law passed in January 2009, Advance Directives are on their way to becoming legally recognized in Mexico. While the government approved form has yet to be made available, Hospice San Miguel has created a form so that your important wishes are made known to allow your family and medical representative to make decisions that are in keeping with your wishes.
